Dan Kaggelis

About Dan Kaggelis

Born in Tully, North Queensland, Dan cut his fishing teeth in the region’s freshwater rivers chasing the tropical triumvirate of sooty grunter, jungle perch and barramundi.
With fishing running thick in the Kaggelis family, Dan was fortunate to experience many extended trips to the Western Cape and Gulf of Carpentaria from a young age. This instilled a deep affection for the sport. Living so close to Great Barrier Reef, offshore fishing was also very much included in recreational activities as was free diving and spearfishing.
This has continued to the present day with Dan mostly fishing the Bowen region however he makes it a priority to fish overseas at least once a year. These global trips have taken Dan to such places as Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pacific Islands and Asia. During these trips he has been fortunate to catch a wide variety of exotic species.
For the best part of the past15 years Dan has fished exclusively with hard and soft lures.
His favourite species include mangrove jacks on the surface in the creeks, impoundment barramundi, jigging for golden snapper and popping for GTs. Dan fishes exclusively with Sunline Braid and Flurocarbon which he attributes heavily to his fishing success.
