Hot Spot for Illegal Fishing Nets

Waterways south of Bowen have been a hot spot for illegal fishing nets recently with Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol seizing a number of unlawful recreational fishing nets.

Size limits apply to fishing nets to protect Queensland’s valuable fish stocks.

Recreational fishers can use seine nets in tidal waters, however, they must not exceed 16 metres in length, 3 metres in drop and the mesh size can be no greater than 28 millimetres.

To report suspected illegal fishing activity, call the toll-free Fishwatch hotline on 1800 017 116.
