3Ts Shark Special: Targeting Sharks in the Logan River

The warmer months such as October through to May are the best time to target these small bull sharks in the Logan River System. The peak time being is December to March, when the water is at its warmest. These female sharks come into the rivers, bays and estuaries during August and start giving birth to baby sharks.

1. Where to find sharks

When it comes to shark fishing there is no secret location. The best tip I can give you is look for eddies and bait fish. Find those two factors and you are in with a good chance.

2 . Tackle

Tackle of choice is Team Madmullet Terminal Tackle shark traces. For these smaller rivers, 40lb and 60llb nylon coated wire is perfect. If you want to purchase some quality handmade shark traces, jump on to www.teammadmullet.com.au

3 . Combo

This is where I like to keep it simple and get back to the basics. A 2-4kg or 3-5kg rod matched to a 2500 or 3000 sized reel spooled with 8lb to 20lb and 20lb to 30lb leader in spin or bait runner outfit.

4. Size Limits

Queensland regulations state that sharks cannot be kept over 1.5m long and only 1 per person. For further details visit  https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/rules-regulations/size-possession-limits-tidal

5 . Bait

My choice when it comes to chasing sharks is either fresh or frozen mullet, fillets of eel and stingray and whole of fillet bait fish such as pike, slimy mackerel, yellow tail and more.
